Zuster stands for “Sister” in Dutch, which is fitting; given the four sisters who run the business have complimentary strengths across design (Wilhelmina McCarroll), sales & events (Meika Behrendorff), manufacturing & logistics (Katrina Myers) and management (Fleur Bouw).

Beginning in 1995, the Zuster sisters had a strong heritage to draw upon with their father Meyer Sibbel establishing his design credentials as a homebuilder in Australia in the 1950’s. Using his Dutch design sensibility, the legacy of European style blended with the Australian environment inspired Wilhelmina to study Furniture Technology at RMIT.

The initial light bulb moment for Zuster began when Wilhelmina used her father’s cabinet making factory to produce a range of bedroom furniture that reflected her love of contemporary Australian design that would reflect an updated version of what “investment furniture” meant in the 21st Century.
