Knibb Design Corp. is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary design/build firm providing comprehensive landscape, interior, urban and environmental design, planning, construction, and maintenance for a wide range of residential, corporate, hospitality, and community projects. Founded in 1993 by designer Sean Knibb, the company has become one of the top landscape architecture studios in the country, with projects in Los Angeles, New York and Jamaica, ranging from multi-acre estates and residences, to restaurants, hotels, and retail spaces, as well as pro bono gardens in South Los Angeles. In 2007, Knibb added interior design services to the company’s repertoire. In 2009, he developed the Knibb Modular Garden, and last year launched SK1, his signature furniture line.
Creating a harmony of form and nature by blurring the distinctions between contemporary art, architecture, and landscape, Knibb specializes in redefining outdoor/indoor space and our connection to the environment. Tapping into a variety of global influences, he creates an aesthetic that enhances and transcends the immediate surroundings by bringing original, beautiful and ecologically responsible projects to life. Knibb collaborates frequently with Appleton & Associates, Behnisch Architects, Deborah Berke & Partners Architects, and Luis Ortega Design Studio, and has designed landscapes for homes by architects Eric Lloyd Wright, John Lautner, Irving Gill, George Washington Smith, and Quincy Jones.
SK1 began with an idea to symbolize communal space. The first piece in the collection was a modernized picnic table, built to last with powder-coated stainless steel and reclaimed oak. The table, and the lines that evolved from it, are all fashioned for outdoor/indoor use. The collection grew to include a wide range of materials, from reclaimed wood to hand-printed velvet. The pieces can be customized: powder-coated in any hue, and built to any size. They are designed and manufactured in Los Angeles, and can be shipped nationwide.
